There are many types of personality disorders out there. It is the narcissistic personality disorder that is one of the not so common disorders out there. It was in the year 1968 where this disorder was the first determined. It is this one that is medically defined as a pervasive pattern of grandiosity, need for admiration, and a lack of empathy. There are five categories of this disorder and they are the unprincipled narcissist, amorous narcissist, compensatory narcissist, elitist narcissist, and fanatic type. Whenever an individual will have unprincipled narcissism then they are the ones that will have an antisocial features like being fraudulent, deceptive and exploitative. And once you will be looking at a person with amorous narcissism then they are the eons that will show histrionic faetures. When taking a look at individuals with compensatory narcissism then it is them that exhibits negativistic and avoidant features. If you are able to see paranoid features then that is a tell-tale sign of individuals with fanatic narcissism.
And there are also many experts that subcategorized the disorder into two types and they are oblivious and hypervigilant. Once you are able to see an individual that is grandiose, arrogant and thick-skinned then they belong to the oblivious type. It is a hypervigilant individual is what you will have once they are easily hurt, oversensitive and ashamed.
When taking a look at the exact cause of this one then there is none found so far. But ma experts believed that there are a variety of factors that can lead to this disorder. Some of the main factors found to be the reasons of this disorder are emotional abuse in the formative years, overindulgence, and excessive admiration particularly during childhood. Once you will look at the disorders then it will start to show during early adulthood and it will progress over a period of time. And it is also this disordered that will have a complication like a relationship and family problems and increasing dependence on alcohol or other drug.
When taking a look at treatment for NPD then one of the most effective that is being used is psychotherapy. It is with the help of this treatment that individuals with NPD have become more compassionate to other people. It is the psychotherapy that has two main goals. There are short term goals and that is to free the individual from substance abuse. When looking at the long term goal of this process then it is changing the character of the person. For people that has NPD then some of the most common medications are antidepressants and anti-anxiety drugs. Thes drugs are given to control depression and anxiety.
